Started in the summer of 2007 by four Rutgers Students, Green Today is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that works to promote simple environmental alternatives in your everyday life. We organized with the belief that although most environmental problems can seem overwhelming, there are many small habits and actions that we can all take that impact our environment. With this belief in mind, we set out to spread awareness on the environmental impact of plastic shopping bags. We fundraised throughout the Highland Park community, raising enough money to deliver reusable shopping bags to each household in town as well as lead an educational program in the local Bartle Elementary School. In November of 2008, Green Today was awarded the Governor's Award for Volunteerism for our efforts in combating plastic shopping bag use.
